Parks and Reserves in eastern Tanzania
This part of Tanzania is often referred to as the eastern safari circuit.

Saadani National Park |
Saadani is the only coastal national park in Tanzania and a major green turtle breeding site.
The park is home to the rare Roosevelts sable antelope and many other animals like lions, elands, waterbucks and kudus as well as a permanent elephant population.
In the south, where Wami river meets the ocean, a large area of mangove swamps appears. Boat trips on Wami river is possible. Hippos and crocodiles are common.
The best game-viewing is probably January/February and from June to August.

Mkomazi Game Reserve |
A spectacular wilderness area located between Kilimanjaro and the indian ocean in northeastern Tanzania. The reserve is contiguous with Tsavo East National Park. Mkomazi share its eastern border with the Umba Game Reserve.

Amani Nature Reserve |
This remote reserve is said to host more than 600 different species of plants.
Location: East Usambara Mountains, Tanzania, Size 84 sq km, Altitude: 190 m - 1130 m

Jozani Chwaka Bay Conservation Area |
Protected area 35 km south east of Zanzibar town. Includes the ground water forest, the coral rag forest and the salt marsh area. Originally declared a forest reserve in 1960, expanded in 1984.
