Namaqualand is located in the north western corner of South Africa. Dry and arid as it is most of the year, a surprising transformation happens in August. Spring has come to Northern Cape - and so has the rain. In a short time wildflowers invade the countryside and change the area into a spectacular flower display.
In earlier times Namaqualand was known as "Little Namaqualand", whereas the Karas region in southern Namibia was known as "Great Namaqualand".
