Namaqualand
is located in the north western corner of South Africa. Dry and arid as it is most of the year, a surprising transformation happens in August. Spring has come to Northern Cape - and so has the rain. In a short time wildflowers invade the countryside and change the area into a spectacular flower display.

In earlier times Namaqualand was known as "Little Namaqualand", whereas the Karas region in southern Namibia was known as "Great Namaqualand".

Richtersveld National Park


A 1624 sq. km large mountain desert wilderness of great beauty. It is close to the Orange River and part of the Richtersveld/Ais-Ais Transfrontier Park on the border of Namibia/South Africa.

The landscape is dramatic with impressive rock formations. Richtersveld is said to have the worlds largest diversity of succulents, and there is many species of flowering plants here.

Despite the harsh conditions and lack of water, the area is home to a varied birdlife and animals like kudu, zebra, klipspringer, duiker, steenbok, caracal and leopard.


Namaqua National Park


65 sq. km large park in Namaqualand, Northern Cape, South Africa. Famous for its succulent plants, and the dazzling display of colourful wild flowers in the spring. More than a 1 000 of an estimated 3 500 species are found only here.

Goegap Nature Reserve

Goegap is situated close to Springbok. This wilderness area host a large number of plant species, nore than 40 mammal species and many bird species, including ostrich and the black eagle.

Desert Rose Guest House offers six spacious double rooms, all of which are en-suite with both bath and shower; and two self catering flats which can sleep four persons.
