Chobe National Park |
Chobe is the second largest national park in Botswana. Along the northern border flows the Chobe river which later joins up with the Zambezi river, upstream the famous Victoria falls.

Short history:
1932:A large area is in Chobe district is declared a non-hunting area. (24000 sq. km)
1934: The non-hunting area is expanded to 31600 sq. km.
1953:21000 sq. km of the area is suggested to become a game reserve.
1961:The Chobe game reserve is proclaimed, but with a reduced area.
1968:The Chobe game reserve is decleared a national park.
1980:Chobe national park is expanded.
1980:Chobe national park is expanded again, and this time to the present size.

Wildlife in Chobe
Some mammals: zebra, lion, elephant, cape buffalo, hyena, sable antelope, cheetah, leopard, bushbuck, puku, hippo, roan antelope, red lechwe. sitatunga, wild dog, warthog
Some birds: african fish eagle, african finfoot, african skimmer, african darter, angola babbler, kalahari scrub-robin, marabou stork, bradfields hornbill, western banded snake eagle,

Outside the Chobe national park
Chobe national park is situated east of the Okavango delta and south of the chobe river which is the Namibia / botswana border in this area. The Caprivi strip with Mamili national park lies on the northern banks of chobe river.
To east is Zimbabwe with with Zambezi national park, Kazuma Pan national park, Hwange national park and several safari areas.
Finally, to the southth lies the Nxai Pan national park.
