The typical striped grass mouse is a small rodent with a striped fur, native to Africa.

This small rodent which sometimes is called zebra mice lives in different habitats.

The Upper Zambezi
is the stretch from Victoria Falls to the sources at Kuleni Hill in Zambia. On its way down to the Victoria Falls, Zambezi flows through the Benguela Plateau in Angola, the western part of Zambia and forms Zambias border with Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe. Western Zambia includes the vast West Zambezi gma, Barotse floodplain - one of Africas great wetlands, The large plain of Liuwa National Park and the rough wilderness of Sioma National Park. Further down the rivers course is Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park close to the Victoria Falls.

Mosi-o-Tunya National Park

Area of woodland, starting with the Victoria Falls and stretching 12 km upstreams Zambezi. The park is home to a variety of birds and many larger animals.

Liuwa Plain National Park

Wilderness in western Zambia sometimes referred to as "a piece of untouched Africa". Liuwa plain is about 70 km long and the area is very remote. During the rainy season the plain is partly flooded.

Short history:

1884:The liuwa plain is declared a wildlife sanctury by the king of Barotseland.

This Litunga or king was king Lubosi Lewanika.

1972:The liuwa plain becomes a national park.

Liuwa Plain is completely enclosed by the West Zambezi gma.

To the south lies the Sioma Ngwezi national park, also inside the West Zambezi gma. To the west is Angola with the Luiana nr and the Cameia np.

Sioma Ngwezi National Park

Sioma Ngwezi National park is situated in the southwestern corner of Zambia, along the border of Namibia and Angola. The park itself covers aprox 5276 sq kilometers, but together with the West Zambezi game management area, an impressive 43346 sq kilometers big, unfenced game reserve is created. Beeing unfenced makes this area ideal for wildlife migrations between the reserve, the Zambezi and parks in Namibia.

Sioma Ngwezi is the only Zambian park except for the Luangwa valley area and Mosi o-Tunya that host giraffes. Vegetation is merely dense woodland in a flat and dry landscape.
